The Old Young Beech Tree

The Old Young Beech Tree

The Synergy of Music Theatre (SMouTh) proudly presents the annual performance of Adults Workshops “The Old Young Beech Tree“, transferring Antonia’s Trikalioti homonym fairy tale from the book pages on stage. This is the second presentation in a row of SMouth’s classes and will take place for three days, from Friday 30 May to Sunday 1 June at the Synergy, Culture space.

SMouTh’s Workshops for Adults are held annually and aim to raise artistic awareness among participants as they experience forms of expression that move beyond typical professional theatre and promote the value of participatory art. Workshop presentations at the end of each year bring the city’s public in contact with the educational process and enable them to gain a comprehensive understanding of how informal arts training works and how it utilizes its results. For more information on SMouTh’s Workshops for Adults check out the Courses page.

THE STORY

The Old Young Beech Tree” is an allegorical tale that manages to speak to the contemporary viewer with lyricism and immediacy about trauma, decay and change. The performance brings to life the story of an old tree that managed to find the value of its existence and conquer its “youth” among the wounds of its bark.  Τhe idea for the performance was born during the creative process in Theatre, Dance, Body Percussion and Photography Workshops for Adults and attempts to highlight trauma as a source of strength.

A fairy tale is born on stage.

A beech tree tells a story.

An axe is carved.

And trauma becomes a resource.

A show for those who carry their scars and continue to bloom.
