07 Nov Premiere with a Work of Art
A highbrow comedy inspired by Anton Chekhov’s short story of the same title.
SMouTh opens the 2026–2027 winter season with its original production A Work of Art or Blasphemy, written and directed by Costas Lamproulis.
What is art? Who defines its value, and who has the right to judge it? Where does artistic freedom end and blasphemy begin? What lies behind our need to make sense of art? How objective is our aesthetic judgement, and how genuine are our opinions? Could it be that, behind every great artistic controversy, there is nothing more than human vanity?
A painting becomes the starting point for an exploration of the worlds of art, intellectualism, aesthetics, social hypocrisy and human vanity. From high aesthetics to sheer absurdity, artists, experts, collectors, journalists and all kinds of art lovers and art outsiders are called upon to take a stand, express their opinions, defend their principles and confront the boundaries of good taste.
A blasphemous comedy about art, irreverence, freedom of expression and the irresistible human need for validation.
A Work of Art or Blasphemy premieres on Sunday, 15 November 2026, at 8:15 pm at SYNERGEIO Culture Space. Performances will continue every Thursday and Friday at 9:15 pm and every Saturday and Sunday at 8:15 pm.
The production will also be presented with Greek Sign Language interpretation on selected dates, to be announced soon.
