Cries by Petros Sevastikoglou

Cries by Petros Sevastikoglou’s to be screened in Larissa for one night only.

SYNERGEIO Culture Space welcomes film director Petros Sevastikoglou and his latest film, Cries, for a one-off screening on Saturday 24 October at 20:15.

Following its successful run at Greek and international film festivals, the filmmaker’s sixth feature film comes to Larissa, offering local audiences an encounter with his distinctive, poetic cinematic world and innovative film language.

Cries is a poetic exploration of love, freedom and femininity, combining experimental visual language with powerful emotional intensity. Nature serves as an inner landscape, while sound and music play a leading role in this untamed yet romantic ode to love, unfolding through the labyrinthine and unruly psyche of a woman. Petros Sevastikoglou is responsible for both directing and cinematography, and also operates the camera, continuing the innovative cinematic approach of his previous works.

Synopsis
Three women of different ages find themselves trapped in everyday lives that oppress them. Caught between routine, social expectations and personal fears, they feel disconnected from themselves and their desires. Their escape into the wilderness becomes an unexpected journey of freedom and awakening, far from rules and social roles.

When an impending wedding confronts them with what is considered “normal” and “acceptable”, the three women begin to question the boundaries of love and relationships. They search for a new way of being, at the cost of clashing with the world around them—and with themselves.

The cast includes Aglaia Pappa, Alexandra Kazazou, Haris Fragoulis, Margarita Alexiadi, Maria Arzoglou and many other actors. The music is composed by The Prefabricated Quartet, featuring Christos Gousios, Thodoris Papadimitriou and Michalis Sionas, long-standing collaborators of the director. Their music often expresses what words cannot.

The film premiered worldwide to a sold-out audience at the 66th Thessaloniki International Film Festival. It was also selected for the International Competition section of the 14th Athens Avant-Garde Film Festival, as the section’s only Greek production. In addition, Cries received recognition at several international independent film festivals, including the Best Film Award at the Boston Indie Film Festival and the Best International Film Award at the Florence Indie Film Festival, as well as an award at the Amsterdam Movie Fest.
