Improlands activity in Keramidi

Improlands activity in Keramidi

A new and impactful activity was carried out by SMouTh artists’ group in Keramidi, Trikala, on Monday 2 September as part of the ImproLands project which aims to use improvisational theatre techniques for the well-being in communities affected by natural disasters, depopulation and/or solitude.

This is the first meeting with the inhabitants of the community which a year ago faced severe flooding that resulted in several residents leaving the area. In an environment where the image of destruction dominated, the residents, members of the newly formed Keramidi Flood Victims Association, welcomed us with smiles and warmth. Despite the difficult stories we shared, the participants expressed confidence that it is the engagement with art, entertainment and group activity that gives them the strength to recreate what they have lost.

We have renewed our appointment for Tuesday, September 24, at 17:00-19:00, on the 2nd floor at the Mill of Pappas, where, as part of this year’s ”Mill of Performing Arts Festival”*, the workshop ”ImproLANDS: Theatrical improvisation and community empowerment” will be held by the SMouTh team of instructors. The workshop is open to all residents of Thessaly who had similar experiences from last year’s floods or other disasters.

Feeling already connected to the community in Keramidi, we have initiated a course of meetings/workshops and we look forward to sharing the results of this collaboration with Larissa’s community in the future.

The ImproLANDS journey continues. More information about the project are available on our portfolio section

* ‘’Mill Performing Arts’’ Festival  is co-organized by SMouTh and the Mayoralty of Culture of the Municipality of Larissa and is supported by the Ministry of Culture.
