SMouTh presents Miss Julie, the masterpiece by August Strindberg, in a translation by Makis Lachanas and directed by Costas Lamproulis.
The premiere will take place on Friday, November 14th, 2025 at 9:15 p.m., and performances will continue every Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday until January 2026.
The Play
Miss Julie (original title Fröken Julie) is an explosive psychological thriller of power, desire, and class survival, set on Midsummer’s Eve.
At its core lies a dangerous attraction between a young woman of noble birth and a servant who dares to cross social boundaries, igniting a relentless game of dominance where desire, fear, and humiliation alternate with painful precision.
Raw, intimate, and profoundly human, the play explores the eternal struggle between gender and class, the yearning for freedom, and the desperate instinct to survive — even at the cost of self-destruction.
Synopsis
During the night of Midsummer’s Eve, in the kitchen of a Count’s estate, the young aristocrat Julie is drawn into a perilous affair with the valet Jean.
As their attraction spirals out of control, the boundaries between passion and power, freedom and social survival, begin to dissolve. Within just a few hours, roles are reversed, buried traumas are revealed, and the relationship between master and servant transforms from seduction into a battle for dominance and redemption.
A work that traps both its characters — and the audience — in the most primal of conflicts: between what we desire and what we are allowed to be.
